Parent & Me

For Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and their young child (ages 6 months - 2 years) Registration Form

Dear Participants,

Hello! My name is Kelli Simpson. This will be my fourth year teaching this program. I love the water and I love to make being in the water safe and fun! This program has two main goals: allow participants to explore and become comfortable in the water and have fun! I will guide you and your child through different water activities and songs that will promote water safety knowledge and swimming readiness skills. Each lesson will be structured in a similar format to allow your child to become more comfortable and adjust easily to the transitions. It is vital that you maintain constant supervision of your child. I also ask that you never force your child to do a skill if they are not ready for that skill. I can also adjust the skill to fit your particular child. Keep in mind that each child will develop at their own rate and this class will increase the comfort in the pool for later aquatic activities. I have lots of fun activities planned and look forward to working with each and every one of you this summer! Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions!

We will have two sessions pending demand.  Each session is independent of the other and consists of 6 lessons.  Each lesson begins at 5:00 p.m. and lasts until 5:30 p.m.  Print out the registration form, complete it, and register at the Morris City Pool in Goold Park (you may want to call 815-942-2919 ahead of time to assure someone is there).  Each spot costs $35 (Check payable to the City of Morris) for City of Morris residents and $45 for non-residents.  Must provide proof of residency (driver's license usually suffices). Each spot consists of a parent/guardian/grandparent and a child under 3 years of age.

Dates/Times:  5:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Session 1:

Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays; June 19th - June 30th

Session 2:

Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays; July 10th - July 21st

Costs:  $35 (City Resident); $45 (non-resident)

Complete the Registration Form and bring to the Morris City Pool (815-942-2919).  We also keep copies at the pool.

The goal of the class is to be a pleasurable way to introduce your child to the fun of being in the water.
Getting the Most out of the Mommy and Me Experience
  • The most important rule is to always keep your child in your arms while in or near water.
  • Make sure your child isn't hungry or tired so that both of you can enjoy the water.
  • Avoid taking a swim immediately after your child has been fed.
  •  Swim diapers are required and can be purchased at the Morris City Pool.
  • Consider protecting you little one from the sun with a hat and (if over 6 months) with sunscreen.
  • No matter how many swim classes your baby has had, and no matter what his/her comfort and skill levels while in the water are, and no matter what kind of swimming float s/he is wearing, you should never, ever leave you baby unattended while in or near water...not even for a second.
